Neil Loneragan completed his BSc at the University of Western Australia, his Honours and PhD at Murdoch University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Waterloo. He is a Professor Emeritus at Murdoch University with research interests covering fish and invertebrate ecology, estuarine and marine food webs, stock enhancement, ecosystem modelling and small-scale fisheries. Before joining Murdoch, he spent 14 years with CSIRO, based in Brisbane working on prawn/shrimp fisheries and habitats in northern Australia and through southeast Asia. He came to Murdoch in 2005 and has been Director of the Centre for Fisheries and Aquatic Ecosystems Research (2005-2012), leader of the Environmental and Conservation Sciences (2012-2015) and a teaching-research academic (2015-2021). He supervises research students and teaches undergraduate students in the areas of fish ecology, marine ecology, data-limited and small-scale fisheries and fish and wildlife populations with 25 PhD, 10 Masters and 35 Honours completions, including students from Indonesia and Malaysia. Prof. Loneragan has delivered training workshops in Indonesia on Fisheries Science, Management Strategy Evaluation for Data-Limited Fisheries and Ecosystem Modelling for Ecosystem Based Fisheries Management. He has over 185 publications in international journals, edited one book and five special symposia, with a Scopus H of 50 (7,757 citations) and a Google Scholar H of 63 (13,289 citations). Currently, he is the President of the Asian Fisheries Society and Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Asian Fisheries Science.
